Pipe Bedding Calculator

How much bedding to order for a run of pipe, and what a wide trench costs.

Pick the pipe and its size and the profile follows: council stormwater for concrete, the SEQ Code (Unitywater, Urban Utilities) for sewer and PE, or TMR. Set the bed, the side zone and the overlay, add barrels if there are two or three pipes in the trench, and read the order in tonnes and dollars with waste.

Tonnes rounded up to the nearest half tonne at the density set above. Pipes are deducted at their outside diameter. Check the profile against the job drawings before you order.

Each profile at its own defaults for this pipe, the same zones, barrels, waste, density and price. The bold row is the profile you are on, at your slider settings above.

Council stormwater profile: 6D standard for concrete pipe under council drawings, side zone the larger of a sixth of the outside diameter and 150, overlay 150, single embedment material; confirm against the council drawing on the job (IPWEAQ DSD-201 or the council's own). SEQ Code sewer and water: SEQ-SEW-1200-2 and SEQ-SEW-1201-1 as adopted by Unitywater and Urban Utilities, clearance by size to AS/NZS 2566.1. TMR: Standard Drawing 1359 and MRTS04 clause 19, zone width A and barrel spacing by size, haunch 0.3 D, overlay 300.
